Conservatory Dance

For AGES 7 and up, Conservatory dance classes are intensive and comprehensive programs designed to provide high-level dance training. As one of the top 5% ballet academies in the US,* Coastal Dance Centre Conservatory classes will elevate your dance by means of a top-notch syllabus from the Royal Academy of Dance and supplemented with our outstanding program of dance classes like, acrobatic arts, contemporary, lyrical, tap and more!

● New students enrolling in dance classes, particularly ballet, from ages 7 and up and/or with previous dance training must take a Level Placement Class before registering for classes.
● New students will be placed in a class according to their age, skill level, and experience. Coastal Dance Centre Ballet technique class levels do not necessarily correspond with levels offered at a student’s previous school. It may also be possible that a student may remain in a level for more than one year. Should a student’s level placement change once classes are in session, any necessary tuition adjustment will be reflected on the student’s next invoice and may require uniform change.

● All returning CDC students who have taken and passed the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) exam in the previous dance year 2023-24, are to register for the next level. Returning students who have not taken the RAD exam should contact the Front Office to inquire about the level recommendation.

● A Level Placement class will allow the teacher to assess the student and then make the best recommendation for the appropriate level that will be beneficial to the student’s learning and growth. The recommended level will be based on their performance and skills in the class, age, and ability. The teacher will then inform the Front Office staff or the child’s parent after this class. There is a level placement fee of $25.00

Uniform and Dress Code

All Coastal Dance Centre dance classes have a specified uniform attire. Parents/guardians must purchase the required leotards with the Coastal Dance Centre logo at the Front Office. It is important for students to abide by a dress code policy for the following reasons:

● A neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for students, teachers, and the art of dance.
● Teachers must be able to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.
● A uniform ensures that the dancer’s clothing is not a distraction during class which helps to keep the dancer more engaged.
● No costumes are allowed in class unless a dress-up day is announced by the teachers.
● Only small stud earrings are allowed; no loose nor dangling earrings; no necklaces nor bracelets.
● Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and neck for all styles of dance.
GIRLS: Hair must be pulled back out of eyes into a neat and secure bun and secured tightly
with a hair net and bobby pins. Ponytails are acceptable in jazz and tap classes.
BOYS: Hair groomed and kept neatly out of the eyes.
● Older students are required to wear the proper undergarments (dance trunks, dance bras or
camisole-style leotards, dance belts) with the appropriate clothing designated for the class.
● No warm-up shirts, skirts, leg warmers, sweatpants, or shorts may be worn during class unless
prior approval is obtained from the teacher.
● When coming to and going from the studio, all students must wear outer clothing, i.e., pants, skirt,
sweater, over their dance attire.
● No dance shoes are to be worn outside of the studio under any condition.
● All clothing and shoes must be marked with the student’s full name.
● Dancewear is to be kept laundered and in good repair.
● If a Conservatory Student is enrolled in a recreational class program, they must purchase the
required recreational uniform and vice versa.
