Welcome Ms. Alison Levenberg as New Faculty Member!

Come this summer, we are delighted to welcome Ms. Alison Levenberg, who will join Coastal Dance Centre and Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre as a faculty member.

Ms. Alison is originally from England and trained professionally Bird College, London, graduating with Distinction, where she also gained
teaching qualifications in the nationally taught Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.) syllabus.

She has had an extensive professional career which includes performing on Broadway in the ensemble of “42nd St” Revival, and as swing and dance captain in “Billy Elliot”. Ms. Alison was then promoted to the role of Resident Choreographer, and then Associate Choreographer for productions of Billy Elliot across the US, Amsterdam, and the UK.

Ms. Alison was also a Radio City Rockette performing at Radio City Music Hall in New York City for 6 seasons. She can be seen in the movie “The Producers” featured as a ‘Tapping Brown Shirt’ in “Springtime for Hitler”, a ‘Pearl Girl’ and ‘Little Old Lady’. Regionally, Ms. Alison has appeared at Pittsburgh CLO where she also served as Dance Captain. Her favorite shows there include “The Who’s Tommy”, “White Christmas” and “Cats”. She was also awarded the Julia Deberson Award during her time there.

Ms. Alison is an accomplished teacher, coach, and choreographer, with over 20 years’ experience. Her greatest goal in educating young dancers and aspiring professional dancers is to encourage passion and versatility for all performing arts and a sense of self achievement as they accomplish new goals. Ms. Alison will help expand on Coastal Dance Centre’s wide-ranging dance expertise by introducing new dance
classes including “Broadway Triple Threat” (Acting, Singing and Dancing), Tap and Jazz Performance (as a supplement to technique classes), Boys’ workshop classes, Rockette style Precision Dance [for Ages 8-10; Ages 11-13 and Ages 14 and older (In heels)]; Choreography class [for Ages 10 and up (Learning the art of choreography and exploring their own creativity in guided exercises]; and Adult Jazz & Tap class.

Beyond providing an expanded Musical Theater curriculum for our students, the additional dance courses will create new opportunities for a greater number of students we look forward to inviting to experience dance at Coastal Dance Centre.

The tuition for each session is based upon the number of class hours in which a student is enrolled per week. It is highly encouraged to take more than an hour per week to take advantage of reduced tuition rates subsequently. The tuition rate per session stays the same regardless of attendance, school closures, or closures due to weather. Tuition is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not prorated for partial attendance. Annual tuition is payable in ten (10) monthly sessions. Students are not charged for the weeks the studio is closed for winter and spring break. These three weeks that there are no classes are omitted from the tuition calendar. Registration fee and tuition are due upon registration of each student. If a student registers in the last week of a session, payment will be due for the next monthly session as well. Classes missed are considered forfeited. Credit WILL NOT be given for classes missed due to illness, vacation, school closings, or acts of nature such as inclement weather.
There is a $48.00 registration fee and a $38.00 registration fee for each additional family member. “Family member’ meaning – living in the same household. Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Registration fee is due at the time of registration. This is valid from August 19, 2024 through the 2025 Summer Session. New students registering for Summer 2025 will be charged a fee of $25.

With more than 20 years of experience, Irene Rodríguez has been a Teacher, Rehearsal Teacher and Choreographer of Spanish Dance and Flamenco Style for prestigious dance institutions, including the National Ballet of Cuba, the National Ballet School and the National Spanish Dance School of Cuba. She has also been director of the Flamenco and Spanish Dance Program at the world-renowned School at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the US and has taught many Master Classes internationally at Universities and renowned dance centers such as Juilliard School, Florida International University (FIU), University of South Florida (USF), West Valley College, University of the Arts of Cuba; among others.

In 2013 in Cuba, she created her own Professional Academy of Spanish and Flamenco Dance and a Vocational School of Dance directing, teaching and choreographing for the Academy including the organization of various Summer Programs and Master Classes. Because of the academic results the Academy was selected to be the representative of the *Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía* in Cuba, which she directed for several years.

As a choreographer, she has won several international awards such as the First Prize in the VIII Ibero-American Choreography Contest CIC’ 2012; among others, having many works commissioned by Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and the Los Angeles Opera; among others. All of her works have been critically acclaimed and have received important and very positive international reviews from publications such as the New York Times and others.

Her work as a choreographer includes multiple titles performed by the Kansas City Ballet, the Spanish Ballet of Cuba, the Irene Rodríguez Company, the Next Generation Ballet, the National Academy of Spanish Dance, the National School of Ballet of Cuba, the Professional Academy of Spanish Dances and the National Company of Lyric Art of Cuba; among others.

HONORS / AWARDS:

2022- First Prize, Ensemble Category at the Youth America Grand Prix with the work “España” danced by the Next Generation ballet of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.

2022- Outstanding Choreographer Award at the Youth America Grand Prix

2018- Order “Isabel La Católica”. Spain’s highest civilian honor (Cruz category). Said recognition is awarded in recognition of extraordinary conduct or civic virtue exemplified by Spanish peoples and foreigners, that benefit the Spanish Nation or those who contribute in a significant way to foster the friendship and cooperation of the Spanish Nation with the rest of the international community. Said title carries, moreover, the signatures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from the King of Spain himself.

2017- IBEROAMERICAN MEDAL given by the HONORIS CAUSA FUNDATION of the University of Guadalajara, México.

Intermediate and Advanced Intensive

RISING COASTAL DANCE CENTRE BALLET LEVELS 4 & UP

An excellent training ground for students, ages 11 to 18 years / Rising Coastal Dance Centre Ballet Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced ballet students.

The summer intensive program will focus on intensive classical ballet training and is designed to challenge and have our students improve in their skill level. Our goal is to have our dancers grow both technically and artistically as well as prepare for the upcoming dance year.

Through our guest master teachers, students will also be exposed to the Vaganova and Cuban technique. Students will work on the elements that will showcase their strengths, while addressing their weaknesses to build a well-rounded dancer for optimal performance quality.

The summer intensive schedule will include classes in Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Repertoire, Partnering, Modern, and Stretch and Conditioning classes with COASTAL DANCE CENTRE’s resident faculty and distinguished guest master teachers.

The summer intensive weeks will give students, particularly those preparing to join the 20242025 Elite and Junior Conservatory Program, a chance to get a head start, learn variations and an ensemble (group) piece, and be observed for casting/roles in the CYBT “NUTCRACKER” 2024 production..
The Summer Intensive will take place and progress over a period of 3 weeks. Students can choose how many weeks of the program they would like to attend – 1week / 2 weeks / or 3 weeks.

COASTAL DANCE CENTRE recommends that students participate in all 3 weeks of the program to fully benefit from its progression in training. Students who participate in all 3 weeks will see the most improvement in their dancing, flexibility, and strength.

Young Dancers Intensive

FOR AGES 8-10 / RISING COASTAL DANCE CENTRE BALLET LEVELS 2 & 3 DANCERS

This introductory summer intensive experience is perfect for young students who have a passion for dance as well as those who are in the beginning years of formal ballet training.

The program will take place over 2 weeks. Parents can choose if they would like their children to attend:
either 2 weeks or 1 week. Students who participate in both weeks will see the most improvement in their dancing, flexibility, and strength.

Classes Offered:
Ballet Technique, Repertoire / Character, Stretch and Conditioning.

Level Placement for NEWstudents will be determined by the Coastal Dance Centre Directors / faculty. The student placement will ensure that we are able to maximize learning, improvement, and retention of material and to ensure that students benefit the most from the summer intensive and have the best learning experience.

The Junior Intensives for aspiring ballet students, ages 10-17 years, are an excellent precursor to Coastal Dance Centre’s Junior Conservatory and CYBT’s Performing Company Program. The tuition for each session is based upon the number of class hours in which a student is enrolled for the 7-week Summer. It is highly encouraged to take more than an hour per week to take advantage of reduced tuition rates subsequently. The tuition rate per session stays the same regardless of attendance, school closures, or closures due to weather. Tuition is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not prorated for partial attendance. There are no Classes on the Fourth of July week, June 30 to July 5. Registration fee and tuition are due upon registration of each student. Classes missed are considered forfeited. Credit WILL NOT be given for classes missed due to illness, vacation, school closings, or acts of nature such as inclement weather.
Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. Students currently enrolled in the 2024-25 Dance Year DO NOT need to pay the registration fee. New students registering for Summer 2025 will be charged a fee of $30.
