The Coastal Dance Centre Summer Intensive Program is for students, ages 9 -17 years.

Coastal Dance Centre’s Intensive offerings include:

The Summer Intensive Program is also a pathway to prepare new students who wish to join the 2023-2024 Coastal Dance Centre’s Conservatory Program.

  • What is a Summer Intensive?
    The idea behind a summer dance intensive is to provide a rigorous period of dance training typically held as a multi-week program during the summer months. The dancer will spend days immersed in dance, receiving instruction, corrections, and valuable feedback from the teachers, gaining strength, and training alongside other dancers.
  • How do summer dance intensive benefit dancers?
    Summer training is an exciting and crucial part of any serious dancer’s progress. Attending summer dance intensive allows students to hone their skills as a dancer. Students will gain physical strength, flexibility and muscle memory while improving their technique, artistic potential, and performance skills. Students will be working very hard, all day, every day! Strength, flexibility, and technique improve in a very short period of time.
  • Summer dance intensives is about growth.
    It is not just the quality of instruction that makes a summer dance intensive so beneficial for students. The structure and time spent in rigorous training also leads to growth. Summer dance intensive students are immersed in dance nearly full time, attending several classes per day. Taking advantage of the whole summer of intensives could result in a year’s worth of progress in a dancer’s technique and artistry! Think it sounds rigorous? Indeed, it is!
  • Performance opportunity at the end of the Intensives
    A student who attends the entire summer intensive weeks will also have a performance opportunity at the end of the intensives. Performing in and observing other dancers in an instructional setting helps expand a dancer’s knowledge and understanding of dance, and hopefully, will inspire the dancers to set goals for their future in dance. It is for these reasons and more that the summer dance intensive has become such a valuable tool in so many serious dancers’ education and training. It is a rite of passage for serious-minded dancers.

The best way, however, to really understand what a summer dance intensive is and how it can benefit the student is to attend and experience one yourself.

For the older students (14 years and up) who attend summer intensives away from home, a dancer will probably also experience some growing up because there is travel and living away from home involved.

A summer dance intensive away from home is many older dancers’ first experience living away from home for an extended period. While our local dancers may commute from home, those who are from another town or state will have to travel and must arrange for accommodations such as Airbnb, or with maybe for some, stay with host families, often for weeks at a time. Students who stay with host families are chaperoned. It is somewhat like being in college, students live semi-independently. These few weeks of relative independence and rigorous study lead to personal growth. For dancers who live and study with other students who are also host families and who are passionate about dance, this opportunity may lead to life-long friendships. And it all happens in just a few weeks’ time!

Students from age 9 years and up are invited to apply and attend the Coastal Dance Centre Summer 2023 Intensives. Students will be placed/assigned according to age, ability, and skill level.

Acceptance into Coastal Dance Centre’s Summer Intensive Program begins with the Application / Audition / Placement Process.

* Currently enrolled Coastal Dance Centre students will be placed internally by CDC faculty and do not have to audition.

Ladies: Leotard, pink tights, ballet shoes (bring pointe shoes for those studying Pointe). Pointe work may be given during the last 20 minutes of the audition class.

Gentlemen: Appropriate ballet class attire that the dancer will be comfortable in.

Yes, there is an In-Person Audition Fee of $35.00.

Audition videos are also accepted. There is a Video Audition Fee of $35.00

NOTE: Each audition video must be prepared in accordance with Coastal Dance Centre’s specifications and submitted with a non-refundable $35 video audition fee. Videos will not be reviewed without submission of payment.

All applicants will be notified of their acceptance results via email approximately one week, but no later than two weeks following acceptance of your application.

Level placement will depend on age and technical ability.

Coastal Dance Centre highly encourages that summer students be enrolled for the entire week / two- or three-week program.

Students in the 3-week program will be able to participate in the Summer Showcase. The performance is on Saturday, August 5.

If you have been accepted into the program, please register online through our Parent Portal and the required deposit must be submitted to guarantee your spot. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis.

The non-refundable and non-transferable deposit is due at the time of Registration.

Yes, your non-refundable deposit will count towards the total balance. Credit Card payments over the phone can also be accepted for a deposit. All deposits are non-refundable, no exceptions.

Tuition is non-refundable and non-transferable. Participants who must withdraw due to injury or illness before the Summer Intensive Program starts will receive a tuition refund minus a 15% administrative fee subject to the receipt of a medical certificate or a doctor’s note. No refunds without a doctor’s note.

Coastal Dance Centre reserves the right to exclude or refuse service to any person at any time prior to or during the Summer Intensive Program, if in the opinion of Coastal Dance Centre’s staff, that person is incompatible with the general enjoyment and well-being of the event. In this instance, no refund will be given.

Currently, we do not have any housing available. Families of out-of-town students are responsible for finding housing accommodations and transportation to and from Coastal Dance Centre will have to find a place to stay during the intensive. Please note that we are not responsible for supervising these students outside of the dance studios.

The tuition for each session is based upon the number of class hours in which a student is enrolled per week. It is highly encouraged to take more than an hour per week to take advantage of reduced tuition rates subsequently. 

The tuition rate per session stays the same regardless of attendance, school closures, or closures due to weather. Tuition is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not prorated for partial attendance.

Annual tuition is payable in ten (10) monthly sessions. Students are not charged for the weeks the studio is closed for winter and spring break. These three weeks that there are no classes are omitted from the tuition calendar.

Registration fee and tuition are due upon registration of each student.

If a student registers in the last week of a session, payment will be due for the next monthly session as well.

Classes missed are considered forfeited. Credit WILL NOT be given for classes missed due to illness, vacation, school closings, or acts of nature such as inclement weather.

There is a $48.00 registration fee and a $38.00 registration fee for each additional family member. “Family member’ meaning – living in the same household.

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Registration fee is due at the time of registration. This is valid from August 19, 2024 through the 2025 Summer Session. New students registering for Summer 2025 will be charged a fee of $25.

With more than 20 years of experience, Irene Rodríguez has been a Teacher, Rehearsal Teacher and Choreographer of Spanish Dance and Flamenco Style for prestigious dance institutions, including the National Ballet of Cuba, the National Ballet School and the National Spanish Dance School of Cuba. She has also been director of the Flamenco and Spanish Dance Program at the world-renowned School at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in the US and has taught many Master Classes internationally at Universities and renowned dance centers such as Juilliard School, Florida International University (FIU), University of South Florida (USF), West Valley College, University of the Arts of Cuba; among others.

In 2013 in Cuba, she created her own Professional Academy of Spanish and Flamenco Dance and a Vocational School of Dance directing, teaching and choreographing for the Academy including the organization of various Summer Programs and Master Classes. Because of the academic results the Academy was selected to be the representative of the *Escuela de Flamenco de Andalucía* in Cuba, which she directed for several years.

As a choreographer, she has won several international awards such as the First Prize in the VIII Ibero-American Choreography Contest CIC’ 2012; among others, having many works commissioned by Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and the Los Angeles Opera; among others. All of her works have been critically acclaimed and have received important and very positive international reviews from publications such as the New York Times and others.

Her work as a choreographer includes multiple titles performed by the Kansas City Ballet, the Spanish Ballet of Cuba, the Irene Rodríguez Company, the Next Generation Ballet, the National Academy of Spanish Dance, the National School of Ballet of Cuba, the Professional Academy of Spanish Dances and the National Company of Lyric Art of Cuba; among others.

HONORS / AWARDS:

  • 2022- First Prize, Ensemble Category at the Youth America Grand Prix with the work “España” danced by the Next Generation ballet of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts.
  • 2022- Outstanding Choreographer Award at the Youth America Grand Prix
  • 2018- Order “Isabel La Católica”. Spain’s highest civilian honor (Cruz category). Said recognition is awarded in recognition of extraordinary conduct or civic virtue exemplified by Spanish peoples and foreigners, that benefit the Spanish Nation or those who contribute in a significant way to foster the friendship and cooperation of the Spanish Nation with the rest of the international community. Said title carries, moreover, the signatures of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and from the King of Spain himself.

HONORS / AWARDS:

  • 2017- IBEROAMERICAN MEDAL given by the HONORIS CAUSA FUNDATION of the University of Guadalajara, México.
  • 2017 – AUDIENCE Award at the choreography competition: IV CONCURSO DE DANZA DEL ATLÁNTICO NORTE “CODANZA” y “GRAND PRIX VLADIMIR MALAKHOV” for her choreography: “El mito”.
  • 2017- Award UNEAC (National Commission of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) in conjunction with the IV CONCURSO DE DANZA DEL ATLÁNTICO NORTE “CODANZA” y “GRAND PRIX VLADIMIR MALAKHOV” for the choreography piece: “El mito”.

Choreography Week for Incoming 2024-2025 Elite and Junior Conservatory and CYBT Performing Company Members

Coastal Dance Centre’s Elite and Junior Conservatory Choreography Week
is exclusively for incoming 2024-2025 Elite and Junior Conservatory and CYBT Performing Company members. These dancers must have attended the three (3) weeks of Intensives and Performance Showcase.

At the Directors’/Faculty discretion and approval, dancers who wish to be in this accelerated/elite program and are not currently part of the Elite and Junior Conservatory may be observed and recommended to be extended an invitation to join this program based on their performance at the Summer Intensives and Performance Showcase.

CHOREOGRAPHY WEEK COST:
* Tuition is $550 for the Elite and Junior Conservatory Choreography Week.
* $450 will be funded by Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre and $100 will be the responsibility of the parent. Requirement: Full attendance in ALL 3 weeks of Summer Intensives and Performance Showcase. Full tuition is due by August 1st.

Intermediater & Advanced Summmer Performance Workshop

Coastal Dance Centre understands that having stage time and performance opportunities are when students will learn and improve the most. The Summer Performance Workshop brings together the work students have done in their classes during the Summer Intensives and displays what they have learned and how much they have improved.

As a celebration of the Summer Intensives, students will be showcasing their talents and progress in various pieces and will enjoy:

* Performing classical ballet pieces as well as original works.
* Having the opportunity to work directly with Coastal Dance Centre faculty and guest master teachers.

Students who wish to participate in the Summer Performance Showcase are required to attend ALL 3 weeks of the Summer Intensive from July 15th through to August 2nd. 

Incoming 2024-2025 students of the Elite and Junior Conservatory Training Program and Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre Performing Company are required to participate in ALL the 3 weeks of the Summer Intensives and the Performance Showcase.

Students are not allowed to miss any days of the Summer Performance Workshop. Missing a day may result in a change of casting for the performance.

TUITION:
Tuition is $300 for ALL 3 weeks of the Summer Performance Workshop. Full tuition is due by July 10th. Full Rate: $450

Intermediate and Advanced Intensive

FOR AGES 10-17 YEARS /
RISING COASTAL DANCE CENTRE BALLET LEVELS 4 & UP

An excellent training ground for students, ages 11 to 18 years / Rising Coastal Dance Centre Ballet Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate, and Advanced ballet students.

The summer intensive program will focus on intensive classical ballet training and is designed to challenge and have our students improve in their skill level. Our goal is to have our dancers grow both technically and artistically as well as prepare for the upcoming dance year.

Through our guest master teachers, students will also be exposed to the Vaganova and Cuban technique. Students will work on the elements that will showcase their strengths, while addressing their weaknesses to build a well-rounded dancer for optimal performance quality.

The summer intensive schedule will include classes in Ballet Technique, Pointe, Variations, Repertoire, Partnering, Modern, and Stretch and Conditioning classes with COASTAL DANCE CENTRE’s resident faculty and distinguished guest master teachers.

The summer intensive weeks will give students, particularly those preparing to join the 20242025 Elite and Junior Conservatory Program, a chance to get a head start, learn variations and an ensemble (group) piece, and be observed for casting/roles in the CYBT “NUTCRACKER” 2024 production..
The Summer Intensive will take place and progress over a period of 3 weeks. Students can choose how many weeks of the program they would like to attend – 1week / 2 weeks / or 3 weeks.

COASTAL DANCE CENTRE recommends that students participate in all 3 weeks of the program to fully benefit from its progression in training. Students who participate in all 3 weeks will see the most improvement in their dancing, flexibility, and strength.

Young Dancers Intensive

FOR AGES 8-10 / RISING COASTAL DANCE CENTRE BALLET LEVELS 2 & 3 DANCERS

This introductory summer intensive experience is perfect for young students who have a passion for dance as well as those who are in the beginning years of formal ballet training.

The program will take place over 2 weeks. Parents can choose if they would like their children to attend:
either 2 weeks or 1 week. Students who participate in both weeks will see the most improvement in their dancing, flexibility, and strength.

Ballet Technique, Repertoire / Character, Stretch and Conditioning.

Junior Summer Performance Workshop

Coastal Dance Centre understands that having stage time and performance opportunities are when students will learn and improve the most. The Summer Performance Workshop brings together the work students have done in their classes during the Summer Intensives and displays what they have learned and how much they have improved.

As a celebration of the Summer Intensives, students will be showcasing their talents and progress in various pieces and will enjoy:

* Performing classical ballet pieces as well as original works.
* Having the opportunity to work directly with Coastal Dance Centre faculty and guest master teachers.

Students who wish to participate in the Summer Performance Showcase are required to attend ALL 3 weeks of the Summer Intensive from July 15th through to August 2nd. 

Incoming 2024-2025 students of the Elite and Junior Conservatory Training Program and Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre Performing Company are required to participate in ALL the 3 weeks of the Summer Intensives and the Performance Showcase.

Students are not allowed to miss any days of the Summer Performance Workshop. Missing a day may result in a change of casting for the performance.

The tuition for each session is based upon the number of class hours in which a student is enrolled for the 7-week Summer. It is highly encouraged to take more than an hour per week to take advantage of reduced tuition rates subsequently. 

The tuition rate per session stays the same regardless of attendance, school closures, or closures due to weather. Tuition is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not prorated for partial attendance.

There are no Classes on the Fourth of July week, July 1 to July 6.

Registration fee and tuition are due upon registration of each student.

Classes missed are considered forfeited. Credit WILL NOT be given for classes missed due to illness, vacation, school closings, or acts of nature such as inclement weather.

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Students registered since August 21, 2023 DO NOT need to pay the registration fee. New students registering for Summer 2024 will be charged a fee of $30.

Level Placement Class

  • A Level Placement class will allow the teacher to assess the student and then make the best recommendation for the appropriate level that will be beneficial to the student’s learning and growth. The recommended level will be based on their performance in the class, age and ability. The teacher will then inform the Front Office staff or the child’s parent after this class. There is a level placement fee of $25.00.

New Students

  • Parents should register based on the age of the child by August 21, 2023.
  • New students ages 2 years – 6 years do not need to do a level placement class.
  • New students enrolling in dance classes, particularly ballet, from ages 7 and up and with previous dance training must take a Level Placement Class before registering for classes.
  • New students will be placed in a class according to their age, skill level, and experience. Coastal Dance Centre Ballet technique class levels do not necessarily correspond with levels offered at a student’s previous school. It may also be possible that a student may remain in a level for more than one year. Should a student’s level placement change once classes are in session, any necessary tuition adjustment will be reflected on the student’s next invoice and may require uniform change.
  • All level placements are at the discretion of CDC teaching staff and subject to the approval of the Artistic Directors.

Returning Students

  • All returning CDC students who have taken and passed the RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) exam in the previous dance year, are to register for the next level. Returning students who have not taken the RAD exam should contact the Front Office to inquire about the level recommendation.

Policies, Procedure & Other Fees

Communication

Coastal Dance Centre uses a variety of communications to keep families up to date:

  • Email is the primary method of communicating information to parents and students. Please keep your email addresses updated and make sure to opt in to email blasts in the Parent Portal to receive the latest information. Also be sure to check your spam/junk folders for emails.

  • Our website is also a valuable tool for communicating with parents. It includes information on class schedules, events and much more.

  • Monthly Newsletter is another resource of information, including upcoming events. 

  • In the event of an emergency or cancellation of classes due to weather or otherwise, communication will be sent by email and/or text message to the contact information in the Parent Portal. Please keep this information up to date.

Automatic Payment Information

  • Upon registration, ALL families are required to submit automatic payment information to reserve the student’s spot for class.
  • Tuition is paid via credit/debit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover).
  • Payment of tuition and additional scheduled fees will be charged automatically on the Friday prior to the start of the new session throughout the 2022-2023 dance year.
  • Any denied transactions will be charged a $30 late fee and any additional bank charge that may apply.
  • All registrants wanting to pay by cash, check, or alternate credit card must do so by the Monday prior to the start of the new session, or tuition will be charged to the payment information on file.
  • For Cash Payments, always make sure you get a receipt (email / hard copy). In case a non-payment issue comes up or needs to be clarified with you, the receipt is your proof of payment. We have a “No Receipt – No Payment Received” policy.
  • Checks should be made payable to “Coastal Dance Centre.” All NSF or returned checks will be charged a $35.00 service fee per check.
  • Families can view their account balances, change their credit card information, if necessary, and make payments at any time through the Parent Portal at coastaldancecentre.com.
  • Personalized Payment Plan agreement contracts can be arranged with the Front Office. This should be in place before your child attends classes.  A one-time service of $30 will be assessed.

Any changes to your payment type or schedule must be submitted IN WRITING to the office, or tuition and additional fees will  be charged to the payment information on file.

Late Payment Policy

  • Please pay your tuition on time. A $30.00 late fee will automatically be added to unpaid accounts after the stated monthly session due date regardless of absence or illness. The late fee is also applied to the tuition amount of those accounts with declined cards. Checks returned for nonpayment will incur the late fee and Non Sufficient Funds Fee incurred by Coastal Dance Centre.
  • The quality of the delivery of our programs depends upon a system of mutual respect and cooperation. We understand that anyone may make a late payment from time to time, but please be respectful of our late fee policy and when applicable, graciously include your late fee in your next payment.. If your credit card information has changed, please notify the Front Office before the next payment deadline.
  • Students who fall two (2) sessions behind on payment will not be allowed to take dance class/es, rehearsals, competition, and performance, until the account is paid in full, including late fees.
  • Coastal Dance Centre reserves the right to prohibit students with outstanding fees from attending classes and rehearsals until full payment is received. Course of action may be taken, including possible termination of enrollment. All delinquent accounts will be turned over to a collection agency.

 

LATE FEE POLICIES ARE STRICTLY ENFORCED AND ASSESSED PROMPTLY. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Refund Policy

  • Once classes have begun, tuition is not refundable. Enrollment guarantees a place in the classroom and is a commitment to fulfill tuition requirements. Students who miss class or withdraw before the end of the session are still obligated for the full session’s fees
  • ​​We do not issue refunds or credit for early withdrawal.
  • In the case of withdrawal from class, the required “Withdrawal Form” must be submitted to the front office no less than 15 days prior to the start of the upcoming session to stop the accrual of tuition charges.
  • No refunds are issued once a child has attended class in any given monthly session. 
  • Any student who takes one class in a monthly session must pay for the entire monthly session.

No refunds are given for classes missed because of illness, injury, or vacation. Credit will be considered only for a prolonged injury or health problem with supporting medical documentation and is subject to a 15% administrative charge.

Changing or Withdrawing from Class

  • Coastal Dance Centre must be notified in writing no fewer than 15 days prior to the start of the upcoming monthly session of any changes to your original schedule (adding or removing classes or withdrawal from classes) or your account will be billed accordingly.
  • If a student chooses to discontinue any or all classes during the dance year, the parent or guardian must contact the front office staff to complete and sign a withdrawal form.
  • Withdrawal may not be transacted verbally with teachers or Front Office Staff or over the phone.
  • Withdrawal forms must be submitted 15 days prior to the start of the upcoming monthly session. In the event a withdrawal form is submitted fewer than 15 days prior to the start of the new monthly session, the entire monthly session’s tuition will be charged.
  • There are no refunds given for students who discontinue taking classes/lessons at any time during the monthly session.
  • If a student chooses to re-enroll after withdrawing from all classes, there will be an additional re-registration fee of $30.

Interruption of Services

  • If we are mandated to close our studio building due to any government order, or any unforeseen circumstances, such circumstances include without limitation natural disasters or acts of God, acts of terrorism, war, government acts or orders, epidemics, pandemics or outbreak of communicable disease, quarantines, national or regional emergencies, or any other cause classes will convert to virtual classes and instruction will continue.
  • There may be an approximate one-week transition period from the date of the shelter in place order until virtual classes begin in order to allow us to implement our action plan.
  • Coastal Dance Centre shall not provide a refund or credit for classes canceled in the case of such events.
  • In the event the studio must close due to force de majeure, we will transfer our programming to virtual classes.
  • If your family would like to opt out of virtual classes, a withdrawal notice will be required. 
  • If a student chooses to re-enroll after withdrawing from all classes, there will be an additional re-registration fee of $30 as stated in the Withdrawal Policy.
  • If the studio is forced to close and cannot operate via virtual classes, we will freeze accounts until further notice.

Annual tuition is payable in ten (10) monthly sessions. Students are not charged for the weeks the studio is closed for winter and spring break. These three weeks that there are no classes are omitted from the tuition calendar.

The tuition for each session is based upon the number of class hours in which a student is enrolled. The tuition rate per session stays the same regardless of attendance, school closures, or closures due to weather.

Registration fee and tuition are due upon registration of each student.

If a student registers in the last week of a session, payment will be due for the next monthly session as well.

Tuition is non-refundable, non-transferable, and not prorated for partial attendance.

Classes missed are considered forfeited. Credit WILL NOT be given for classes missed due to illness, vacation, school closings, or acts of nature such as inclement weather.

There is a $45.00 registration fee and a $30.00 registration fee for each additional family member. “Family member’ meaning – living in the same household.

Registration fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Registration fee is due at the time of registration. This is valid from August 22, 2022, through the 2023 Summer Session. New students registering for Summer 2022 will be charged a fee of $25.
