The CDC Competition Team is for students who want to have the opportunity to dance in a competition environment. Competition Team membership offers students the chance to enjoy being on stage and being around other performers and teammates, giving themselves a chance to nurture their competitive spirit.
CDC students who are interested in joining competitions must have a higher level of commitment and dedication as training hours increase, and physical and emotional preparation is necessary.
The CDC Competition Team members are required to attend either an RAD Ballet in addition to their competition class (which works on the technique and choreography). They will compete in 2 -3 dance competitions held locally, Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC. They also get to perform their routines at community events where CDC is invited to perform and at the annual Spring / Summer Festival of Dance performances.
Students who are interested to perform a solo for competitions require a one-on-one training. Separate rehearsals are required of those who are in the ensemble or group dances.
There are private lesson fees and competition entry fees involved as well as travel and accommodation expenses for those who compete outside of the Myrtle Beach area.
CDC students are given the opportunity to participate in competitive dance this year. Competition dance requires a high level of commitment from both the dance and the family. It also involves significant financial expense. There are added costs associated with competitions.
Competition team members will work on any or all of the following dance styles and ensemble dances: Jazz, Lyrical, Acro and Tap.
OVERVIEW OF THE COMPETITION TEAMS
For the COASTAL DANCE CENTRE student who desires something more, we have the Competition Team program that allows for more training and performance opportunities. This program is for the self-driven group of dancers that are very focused on dance and desire to better themselves while being team players.
COASTAL DANCE CENTRE’S award-winning COMPETITION TEAM PROGRAM is a special program designed for dancers who love to perform and passionate about dance.
ALL DANCERS MUST AUDITION or BE INVITED before they are selected for the team (current / returning students need to re-audition each dance year/season).
* The Competition Team Teachers are looking for showmanship, personality, the right attitude, a love for dance and potential for development as a dancer. Within our Competition Teams, we have multiple levels, allowing our dancers to make gradual steps up within the program.
* Dancers may elect to participate in 1 or multiple Teams per season.
* Placement is by audition/class observation and based on the dancer’s strengths.
Eligibility: The Competition Teams are for ages 5-18 with a focus on strong foundations, clean technique, flexibility, strength and timing. Our Competition Team dancers will participate in 3 competitions each season. Select dancers, with teacher’s approval/ by invitation only, may have opportunities for solos..
Summer Commitment:
* Minimum of 4 weekly summer classes – required. Join us for dance classes.
* Attendance at Summer Intensives highly encouraged but not required.
School Year Commitments:
* Enrollment in RAD Ballet Class, plus a Technique and the competition class of their chosen dance team (Jazz /Tap/Acro/Lyrical) -required
* Participate in 3 competitions.
* Competition Teams perform at our annual preview show “Spring Festival of Dance” (date subject to change), participate in 3 competitions (Dates TBD); and participate in community events (TBD).
* Competition Team fees TBD for the season – all inclusive including a costume and entry fees to the competitions.
* A team jacket (additional fee) is also required.
