Coastal Dance Centre rakes in awards at Showstoppers competition in Myrtle Beach
May 28, 2019 | More than 20 Coastal Dance Centre dancers competed at the Showstoppers dance competition in Myrtle Beach May 9-11, earning a slew of awards.
The studio had dancers enter multiple categories, and for the first time entered a mini competition team to perform a jazz number, “What’s New at the Zoo?” The troupe, comprised of nine dancers between the ages of 6-7, earned a second-place category finish and an eighth overall finish.
Alyssa Dionne, 13, earned two Crystal Awards for a duet with Siena Espana, “Clay,” and her solo, “Memories Hither and Thither,” along with first-place category and overall finishes for both numbers.
Former CDC dancer is 1 of 24 worldwide accepted to Juilliard School of Dance for 2019
May 20, 2019 | Lindsay Phillips, a Georgetown County teenager finishing her senior year of high school at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH) in Greenville, S.C., is one of 24 dancers worldwide accepted to The Juilliard School of Dance in New York City for the 2019-2020 school year. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance over the next four years.
Phillips, 18, started dancing at age 6. She danced at Dance Creations in Andrews, EMpressions Dance Studio in Pawleys Island, Fusion Dance Center in Andrews, and Coastal Dance Centre (CDC) in Myrtle Beach. During her two years at CDC, Phillips joined the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre (CYBT), performing in public productions from “Sleeping Beauty” to “The Nutcracker.
