CDC Student Competes in 2017 World Ballet Competition

Coastal Dance Centre’s Advanced Ballet student and Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre 2016-2017 Senior Company Member, Alexis Bull, fourteen years of age,  competed along with other international contestants in the Pre-Professional Division of the World Ballet Competition (WBC) held in Orlando, Florida from June 19 – 24, 2017.


Alexis was a recipient of the 2016-2017 Dizzy Feet Foundation’s Segerstrom Scholarship. She was also a 3rd Place winner in the Contemporary Category and was among the Top 12 in the classical category at the Youth America Grand Prix regional competition held in Tampa, Florida last January 2017. She was also awarded a summer intensive scholarship to the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida for this YAGP stint.

Below are updates of how the competition went for her:

Round 1, Group 2, Pre-Professional Category Elimination Round, TUESDAY, June 20:  
Round 1, Classical – Giselle, Act 1 Variation –
Group 2, 7:10pm – 8:40pm
Alexis’ score – 7.600

Round 1 Contemporary Variation – Captive

Group 2, 8:40pm-10:10pm
Alexis’ score – 8.075

For Round 1, Alexis has a total of 7.838 placing her 7th (out of 52 competitors).
The top 26 (24 female, 2 male) will move on to the next round.

Round 2 Elimination Round, WEDNESDAY, June 21:

Round 2 – Classical – Satanella Variation –
3:00 pm – 4:30 pm – Score – 8.525
Alexis finishes in 2nd Place for this round *

* With the scores combined from Round 1, Alexis garnered 8.067 to move her to 3rd spot (out of 26).  The top 15 competitors will move on to the Final Round to perform
two more classical variations. Congratulations once again to Alexis!

 

FINAL ROUND, FRIDAY, June 23:
3rd Classical – Gamzatti Variation – 3:00 pm – 3:45 pm, Score-8.550
4th Classical – Giselle Variation –  4:40 pm – 5:25 pm, Score-8.425

Alexis finishes 3rd Over-all in the Pre-Professional Category!!!
